2 Corinthians 11:3 (New International Version, ©2010)
3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
What has God called us to? God’s calling is proven and sure, yet often misunderstood and misinterpreted. God’s call to you and I is simple: It is to Himself. I have noticed over the years this purpose has become corroded in the storm of culture and self actualization. Even things that are believed to be seemingly good, God has not called us to answer. He has not called us to win souls all over the world, nor has he called us to convict the world of sin. He has not called us to compete with the world in possessions, He has simply called us to Himself.
What a calling! However, very few see the glamour in this simple command. Sadly, few desire to simply know Him. Lord, I pray that our hearts will be for us to simply know you and that our goals as believers is to better know You. Let us “Fix our eyes on you, the author and finisher of our faith….”(Hebrews 12:2).
This is my prayer for us as we seek to know Christ, the one who gave all for us,so that we might live:
I cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and made him to sit at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule, and authority, and power, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: (Ephesians 1:16-21 American Standard Version)
Lord, help us to know you, in Your name we pray, Amen.
